Ree Seminole

Technical Director

I currently work at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Ga, where I am the faculty Technical Director. In this capacity, I supervise and work with student crews to achieve the design requirements of our season, maintain our two theaters and our scene shop. Our proscenium space is equipped with 8 JR Clancy Powerlift hoists, as well as single purchase line sets. Our shop is mainly set up for wooden scenery construction, but every now and then steel is required. I teach my students the skills they need to complete the tasks for any particular show, whether it’s traditional scenery rigging, welding, or how to use vacuum forming. Additionally, I occasionally get to take a break from being the TD by training my students in Autocad and letting them take the reins of a show, mentoring and supporting them. What my résumé does not show is my calm demeanor. I am comfortable with handling unpredictable situations. I can learn and develop new procedures rapidly, and I approach problems creatively to find solutions. In addition, as a member of United States Institute of Theatre Technology, I have access to information concerning the newest safety procedures and stage technology.
